GIBS provides a vibrant environment of interactive and participative learning. At GIBS Learning is a way of life and hence, the pedagogy is so well thought-out that students and teachers come across various opportunities to groom themselves every day. All the stake holders in the learning process at GIBS are continuously involved in the evolution of thought and self. The pedagogy lays emphasis on increasing the human skills through clear conceptual understanding of subjects, with complete exposure to industrial practices.

Our unique competence lies in our innovative pedagogy. Our pedagogy comprises a balanced mix of studies, presentations, panel discussions, role plays; simulation exercises, industrial visits and games, etc.

Teaching for Diverse Abilities and Learning Styles

Every student has a unique profile of abilities, strengths, learning styles, and previous experience. GIBS respect diverse talents and ways of learning by implementing unique teaching methodology. It is important that teachers learn to use a variety of teaching methodologies in order to cater for the range of learning needs and requirements that are present within most class environments.

In this unique teaching methodology, students are evaluated for personal traits like communication skills, confidence level, level of maturity, motivation, learning ability, by practiced methods. Students are divided into three groups as Section –A, Section – B, Section – C based on personal traits. Students with excellent skills are grouped as Section A, students with very good skills as Section B and the students with good skills as Section C.

Additional training programs are included in the curriculum of Section B and Section – C for improvement in communication, personality development, motivation, confidence, etc. These programs are designed by experts in the industry.

Students of Section B and Section C are always encouraged to get promoted to Section A by enhancing their skills. At the same time, Section A students also should strive to be in top group by continuously improving skills. This will create a healthy competition among students and they always work hard to be in the best group.

At the end of Semester 1, all the section students are evaluated for the overall improvement and skills enhancement. Based on the evaluation results, the following transformation will take place:

Section C students- > Section B or Section A
Section B students - > Section A or Section C
Section A students - > Section B or C

Why this methodology?

Teaching for Diverse Abilities and Learning Styles methodology focuses on the students who need additional teaching aids and attention to improve and groom. This methodology creates a healthy competition among students to do their best and give way for continuous improvement. All students, regardless of their level, can benefit, from improved study Technique.

The main motto behind these activities is to bring all the students in the same rank after the completion of the 2nd semester so that they can enter the corporate world with good confidence and motivation.

Participative Approach to Learning

Learning is not just about a teacher giving information. Learning is an active process where a learner goes through an experience and learns from it. There are many ways that we can think of to involve learners in their learning. In participatory learning, we can negotiate many aspects of what and how we learn. These might include the objectives, knowledge, skills and attitudes, or the teaching-learning methods we want to use, or how we might assess whether we have learnt anything.

GIBS Students are enriched with knowledge not only through lectures, but also by way of assignments, live projects and individual research done in various sphere.

Lecture and Case Method

The keystone of the pedagogy used in MBA programme is the case method of learning, along with lectures. Classroom learning gives the students a very relaxed environment where they can grasp the knowledge bestowed upon them by theoretical lectures delivered by distinguished faculty. Classroom learning also gives them the opportunity to engage themselves in question and answer sessions.

A case study is a description of an actual administrative situation involving a decision to be made or a problem to be solved. The case study method is practical approach of having exposure of managerial decision making and dealing with industrial fundamentals. Case teaching method as a pedagogical tool persuades students to make decisions in various simulated situations of the corporate world. Students are expected to interpret complex data and determine the best course of action to overcome on organizational issue. It is an exercise to inculcate critical understanding of concepts and demonstrates organizational experience and efforts to overcome different problems/ situations in the real business scenario. Case discussions will be supplemented with guest lectures, seminars, games, role plays, industrial visits and group exercises.

A case study method enables students to refine their analytical skills, decision making and strengthen their ability to work in a complex business environment.

Self Study

Self study is an important aspect of effective learning. Even studying with conventional teaching methods, it is very important for a student to have clear vision and understanding of each every topic.

To keep in constant touch with the changing business environment, the future managers are required to gather information from newspapers, magazines, journals, reference books and internet. This is a part of the curriculum also.

Team Work

Team work is another element of the learning methodology applicable for most of the courses. GIBS focuses on the relevance of self-directed learning. Teams are formed so that students find a chance to work with groups from different educational, professional and cultural backgrounds.

Groups that work well together can achieve much more than individuals working on their own. A broader range of skills can be applied to practical activities and sharing and discussing ideas can play a pivotal role in deepening your understanding of a particular subject area.

Guest Lectures and Industry - Institute Interface

Guest lecturers will be called upon by inviting local entrepreneurs, top level executives of multinational companies and also Middle to senior management executives to share their knowledge, expertise and real-life experiences with students. Students benefit greatly from being exposed to the additional perspectives.

Seminars and Workshops on all the functional areas of management are held at regular durations. Such interface leads the student to multiple avenues and widens their choice of careers. It also helps them to understand and grasp real life situations as faced in the corporate world.

Short Projects & Summer Internships with the Institute’s Corporate Partners

For all students to gain real time experience, it is necessary that they go through hands-on training. This platform is provided by the skills that they acquire from the short projects that they do. This is an excellent opportunity for students to have close interaction with the industry-experts who frequently give them live projects to work on. On completion of their projects, the students are required to make presentation of their reports before the industry representatives, faculty members and students.

Short projects are allotted in all of the functional areas of management. The student is expected to study and understand how things work in real time scenario.

The students are required to undergo summer internship for a period of six to eight weeks with reputed companies. This enables them to understand theoretical concepts learned at the Institute in a real-life corporate context. While working on live and time-bound projects, they gain actual experience of the corporate culture. The process helps them develop professional attitude, sense of responsibility, analytical ability and leadership qualities. It also helps the industry in assessing the students’ performance and potential, on the basis of which pre-placement offers are often made.

For professionals today, presentation and public-speaking skills are more important than ever. Management guru, Tom Peters, for example, says that “presentation skills are worthy of extreme obsessive study.” Strong presentation skills and the ability to engage and connect can truly set you apart from the crowd.

At periodic intervals, the students are encouraged to undertake project work in their chosen subject under the guidance of their guide faculty. By the end of the course this enriching exercises undertaken by the students hone their presentation skills at par with the current job market scenario.

Mentoring Cell

Mentoring is a professional activity, a trusted relationship, a meaningful commitment.

One Unique way in which we enable learning is by Mentoring. We have constituted a Mentoring cell, which has divided all students and have allotted them as mentees to the faculty members. The mentoring cell also tries to appoint mentees to the seniors too. Each senior student is supposed to mentor one freshman. But to minimize untoward incidents, these activities are closely monitored by the mentoring cell.

Mentoring is one of the best ways to learn, as it provides a friend and guide to the freshman and correct direction to the senior students.

Performance of the students is evaluated, regularly, on the basis of the following:

  • Classroom participations
  • Assignments
  • Case - Studies
  • Project Reports
  • Presentations
  • Mid - Term Tests
  • End Final Examinations
